“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver made a decision to bring attention to this on Sunday’s program, creating a supercut of Golberg’s most absurd defenses through the years.
Whoopi Goldberg won’t let up in her defence of Bill Cosby, and John Oliver is calling her out. “So back off me!”
Whoopi Goldberg, one of the few celebrities who has defended Bill Cosby against allegations that he raped and drugged dozens of women, has changed her stance on the scandal.
“I have been taking a lot of heat for various reasons”, Whoopi acknowledged this morning, welcoming Abrams to The View “to help me understand a lot of what’s going on” in re Cosby.
Abrams explained that because the civil and criminal statute of limitations has expired for the vast majority of the women accusing Cosby of a crime, he will likely never see the inside of a jail cell.
Abrams explained there is a movement now to remove the statute of limitations in rape cases, which Goldberg said she fully supports. “It’s the pressure; it’s the pulling of his TV shows, it’s the ridicule”.
They weren’t Whoopi’s finest moments. But, she quickly added, addressing viewers, “PLEASE don’t’ take this the wrong way”.
“The View” co-host says, “What we have learned is there’s no recourse for these women except what they’re doing”. “If this is to be tried in the court of public opinion, all the information that is out there kind of points to guilt”.
The compilation also included a short segment from a Tonight Show appearance promoting her role in last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, in which she says, “They love pizza; I love pizza”.
In a devastating segment that lasted barely more than a minute, Oliver tore into Goldberg for defending Cosby… and others. “I thought, “Here’s all the information””. With respect to Mel Gibson, who admitted to making anti-semitic remarks when he was arrested for DUI in 2006, she said “I know Mel and I know he’s not a racist.”‘.
Addressing Cosby, Whoopi concluded, “It looks bad, Bill”.
