Animal crimes detectives responded and after nine months of calls and emails, Crawford flew to Phoenix.
Crawford allegedly posted an advertisement soliciting a horse owner who would allow him to commit “perverted” acts with the animals, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said at a press conference.
A Pennsylvania man has been arrested by undercover deputies in Arizona after traveling across the country to have sex with a horse, a sheriff’s spokesman said on Monday. In an e-mail released by the Sheriff’s Office, Crawford said he was looking forward to the visit and described his desires.
A day after the arrest, Arpaio attended a rally for presidential candidate Donald Trump.
In another disturbing detail, deputies said Crawford brought shirts for the horses to urinate on. “And he got away with it. He would have gotten away with this one too, but he happened to pick the wrong county”, said Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County.
He later told the deputy that he purchased a non-refundable plane ticket to Phoenix adding, “If you can really help with what I am seeking, I am definitely interested in traveling out to meet you”, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Luckily, Crawford never made contact with the horse itself.
On Friday, authorities said he was met by undercover deputies at the Phoenix airport and taken to a meeting with a volunteer sheriff’s posse member and the horses in Tolleson, Arizona.
Arpaio said the man was arrested after a 20-month investigation. He told detectives he would mail the clothing back to his home in Pennsylvania, where he apparently planned to wear them for arousal purposes, Arpaio said. It is part of my office’s fight against animal abuse. Following the equines’ presentation, Crawford was arrested.
In Arizona, a Class 6 felony is the lowest ranking felony offense.
